Breakthrough in Limmern

Within the scope of the Linthal 2015 project, the capacity of the Linth-Limmern AG Power Station is being augmented by 1,000 MW through adding the Limmern pumped-storage hydro station. At present the existing hydro power plants Muttsee, Tierfehd and Linthal (Canton of Glarus, East Switzerland) provide a joint output of 480 MW. The core elements of this major project are 2 pressure tunnels each 1,030 m long. They are excavated from the machine chamber (1,700 m ASL) to the Muttsee service chamber located 600 m higher.
