Segments under Control: Production, Installation and Storage

Increasingly complex construction tasks in conjunction with a restricted amount of space for the construction site installations call for high-quality efficient utilization of available resources. In contract section KAT2 of the Koralm Tunnel an innovative EDP support system has turned out to be the answer: the interlinking of the digital modules for calling up segments for the TBM from the stock logistics as well as documenting their placing in the tunnel eliminates among other things erroneous stockpiling on storage spaces or incorrect deliveries of materials to the point of use.

The Koralm Tunnel KAT2 Project

The Koralm Tunnel is a central project for the ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG on the Baltic-Adriatic rail route. The altogether 32.8 km long tunnel links Styria with Kärnten in the south of Austria. It consists of 3 contract sections with the central section, constituting 19.7 km in the south bore and 17.5 km in the north bore representing 57 % of the total, the longest one. The KAT2 JV commissioned to produce this section is made up of the companies Strabag AG (85%) and Jäger-Bau (15%).

The roughwork operations for the 2 running tunnels is divided up into roughly 4.4 km of...
