Trials on the new
Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle Rail Route

The Deutsche Bahn AG is engaged in building the new and upgraded Berlin–Leipzig/Halle–Erfurt–Ebensfeld–Nuremberg rail route costing some 10 billion euros as Germany Unity Transport Project (VDE) No. 8 to realize the Berlin–Munich–Verona north-south artery.

Section VDE 8.2, the 123 km long new Erfurt–Leipzig/Halle line, is due to become operational in 2015 so that the travelling time will be cut from 70 to 39 min. This will result in halving the time needed to cover the distance between Munich and Berlin to less than four hours in conjunction with the already completed new and upgraded...
