Germany/Europe – DB ProjektBau GmbH: One of Europe’s biggest Project Management Providers
Project management, planning and supervising construction – the DB ProjektBau GmbH as subsidiary of the international mobility and logistics enterprise Deutsche Bahn AG is responsible for these sectors within the concern. The DB ProjektBau GmbH has extensive knowledge at its disposal – not only relating to railways. However it is able to provide all project services relating to railway infrastructure from one source – from devising the project to its execution.
With an annual construction volume of up to Euro 3 bill. per year and around 3,700 employees the DB ProjektBau is numbered among the largest project management providers on the transport infrastructure sector. A scrutiny of its main client, the DB Netz AG, reflects the contract volume: the DB Netz maintains more than 34,000 route km making it Europe’s biggest rail network – alone the roughly 800 tunnels belonging to it possess a total length of 482 km. The DB ProjektBau’s know-how is correspondingly extensive: whether tunnels or bridges, complex new and upgraded routes, stations or electronic signal boxes – highly qualified staff plan and accomplish a whole range of projects.
Currently for instance the company is engaged in constructing the new/upgraded Karlsruhe – Basle route and thus at the same time bears responsible for Germany’s largest tunnelling site: the Katzenberg Tunnel, which has almost been completed in the interim. And with the Stuttgart21/Wendlingen – Ulm rail project the DB ProjektBau is tackling one of the biggest and most sophisticated infrastructural projects in the whole of Europe – with altogether roughly 120 km of running tunnels this project too requires a high degree of specific knowledge. Furthermore the German Unity Transport Project (VDE) No. 8, the approx. 500 km long core of the high-speed Munich – Berlin line, is also numbered among the company’s projects just like the link for the future Berlin Brandenburg Air-port International (BBI), which is currently being built outside the gates of the capital. Various construction projects from the German government’s economic programme as well as numerous other projects large and small round off the DB ProjektBau’s list of contracts.
The company pursues the principle “all services from one hand and as near to where the client is based as possible” and acts correspondingly throughout the country: apart from its headquarters based in Berlin there are 7 regional divisions, in which the members of staff operate from numerous locations both close to the project and the client. Furthermore projects, which are of particular significance owing to their size and technical challenge, are integrated in an independent major project organisation, with the project manager reporting directly to the board of management. In order to be in a position to sustain the high quality level of its services the DB ProjektBau is always interested in qualified (up-and-coming) engineers.
