Germany. IFAB (“Institut für angewandte Brandschutzforschung”) is an experienced German institute in fire safety consultancy and engineering. The scope of service includes theoretical considerations and as well practical testing. The IFAB team has been involved in fire testing since 1994 and benefits from the experience gained from over 1800 real scale fire tests. The major part in testing is related to analysing and proving the efficiency of water based fire-fighting systems.
At the end of 2015 the high quality level of testing work has been confirmed by the German National Accreditation Body (DAkkS): IFAB has been accredited to carry out fire tests according to the DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The accreditation refers to fire tests in order to prove the efficiency of water based fixed fire-fighting systems in applications like rolling stock, industrial, public spaces, storage areas, engine and machinery rooms and in particular in tunnels and underground transportation facilities. IFAB is the world’s first testing lab, which is accredited to carry out fire tests according to SOLIT Engineering Guidance (main document, part 3 and annex 7 “Fire Tests and Fire Scenarios for Evaluation of FFFS”).
