Konrad Bergmeister Awarded With the Emil Mörsch Memorial Medal of the DBV
The German Concrete and Construction Technology Association (DBV) has honored O. Univ.-Prof. Dr. mult., Dr.-Ing. E.h. mult. Konrad Bergmeister with the association's highest award, the Emil-Mörsch-Memorial-Medal. The award was presented by DBV Chairman Dr. Matthias Jacob at the opening event of the German Construction Technology Day on 20 March 2025 in Stuttgart.
In his laudatory speech, Dr. Matthias Jacob quoted from the certificate, which pays tribute to Konrad Bergmeister as follows: “As a scientist, client, planner and publicist, he combines four roles of a civil engineer in one person in a special way. He is a protagonist in research and teaching, imparts his knowledge with profound practical experience as a planner with his own office and manages important major infrastructure construction projects as a responsible and leading engineer.

His work is framed by extensive activities as editor of renowned standard works and author of numerous scientific articles. Due to his outstanding experience, he is not only in demand throughout the German-speaking world, but also throughout Europe and internationally in the academic world, at state and supranational institutions and at specialist organizations as an important source of advice and impetus. With his wide-ranging and interdisciplinary work, he has, in the tradition of Emil Mörsch, enhanced the reputation of civil engineering in professional circles and society in an outstanding manner.”
Professor Konrad Bergmeister expressed his gratitude “for this unique recognition” with “great humility and the highest esteem”. Emil Mörsch and the previous 49 laureates had “advanced innovations in concrete construction through profound research, an enormous amount of structured, experimental and, in recent decades, numerical analyses”. However, these were not individual achievements. He therefore appealed to the audience to work together to put the findings into practice much more quickly, efficiently and responsibly for the next generation, incorporating the full range of sciences.
Emil Mörsch Memorial Medal
With the Emil Mörsch Memorial Medal, the DBV honors personalities who have distinguished themselves through special achievements in the field of concrete construction and have promoted this type of construction. The medal has been awarded since 1938 and is dedicated to the memory of the German civil engineer, researcher and university educator Emil Mörsch (1872–1950), who is considered a pioneer in the fields of concrete and reinforced concrete construction.
