Panama City’sMetro Line 1

The Panamanian transportation system has gone through several stages of transformation in the last three years. Government efforts focused on the construction of Line 1 of Panama City’s Metro, a project that took 20 months of implementation and came into operation at the beginning of April 2014, covering a total distance of 14 km with almost 7 km running underground.

It is expected that the rail cars of Line 1 transport 15 000 commuters per hour each way during the peak traffic hours in the city. The route of Line 1 of the Metro covers the area near the Albrook Terminal (Gran Terminal Nacional de Transportes) to the area adjacent to the Los Andes Shopping Center. The Line 1 of the Panama Metro currently connects 12 passenger stations, six for the underground section, one at-grade and five for the elevated section.
