Tunnelling Pocketbook 2021

For many years, the Taschenbuch für den Tunnelbau (Tunnelling Pocket Book) has been a practical guide for clients, planners and contractors, as it deals with current developments and innovative solutions to problems and thus documents the state of technology. The current edition of the Tunnelling Pocketbook includes the following topics:

Conventional  tunnelling: excavation of large cross-sections in full excavation for the Stuttgart-Ulm railway project; sealing pressurised water-retaining railway tunnels with plastic sealing membranes; construction of a highly reinforced inner lining in the anhydrite-bearing rock of the Feuerbach Tunnel.

Mechanised tunnelling: construction of landfall sections of underwater gas pipelines by pipe jacking

Machines and equipment: DAUB recommendation for the selection of tunnel boring machines

Construction materials and components: Utilisation of excavated material from mechanised tunnelling in soft ground

Research and development: Aerodynamic aspects of modern railway tunnels

Digitalisation in tunnelling: BIM pilot project on the eastern A44 motorway tunnel chain in the German state of Hesse

Project examples: Underground turning of a hard rock shield machine in 20 days (Filder Tunnel); Undercutting of the historically protected DB Directorate in the Stuttgart 21 project.
