9th Rock Mechanics and Tunnelling Day on 13 June 2024 in Weinheim

On 13 June 2024, the 9th Rock Mechanics and Tunnelling Day will take place at the WBI Center in Weinheim (Germany). The conference will be organized by WBI GmbH, sponsored by the German Railway (DB InfraGO AG) and supported by the German Engineering Association (Arbeitskreis Bautechnik of the Württembergische Ingenieurverein). It is an event of 1-day duration offering lectures on interesting issues of tunnelling and underground projects in Germany and worldwide.

This year, the authors from the fields of clients, the construction industry and planning deal with the following main topics:

The conference language of the event is German. Simultaneous translations from German to English or German to Spanish are possible. All necessary safety measures such as hygiene concept, obligation to wear face masks, distance requirement, possibly restricted admission (3G/2G/2G+) etc. will be implemented, if necessary, adapted as required and must be followed by all partici­pants.

The 9th Rock Mechanics and Tunnelling Day will once again offer numerous presentations on various topics and projects. The „Rock Mechanics, Tunnels and Underground Construction“ segment, for example, includes the lecture topic „Tunnel Planning: Rock Mechanical Models versus Classification“, as well as the „Possibilities of Single-Shell Construction for the Renewal of Old Railway Tunnels“ and a „Holistic Approach to TBM Tunnelling in Sedimentary Rocks“

Under the title „Sustainability“, the second session of the day will analyse the potential for pumped storage power plants in Germany and will take a look at sustainable specialised civil engineering.

Finally, the project presentations will begin with the current planning status of the Frankfurt long-distance railway tunnel. Other project presentations include „New Underground Line U5 in Hamburg: Structures, Construction Methods and Special Features in the Bramfeld–City North Section“ and „ElbX – a Central Component of the Energy Transition in Germany“
