Saaser Tunnel –
Saas Bypass opened

The 3.7 km long Saas Bypass on the A28 national highway with the 2.6 km long, 2-lane Saaser Tunnel (= 69 % of the route) and the parallel 2.3 km long safety tunnel was opened on October 21, 2011 following 9 years of construction.

Together with the 2 cut-and-cover sections at the Saas West interlink and the Waldhof portal the Saaser Tunnel is 2,577 m long with two 3.50 m wide carriageways in 2-way traffic and two 3.50 m wide hard shoulders at the sides. The smallest curve radius in the tunnel amounts to 600 m. From the Saas West interlink the tunnel rises with a 2.5 % gradient towards Waldhof....
