Virtual Conference

Beyond a Tunnel Vision: an Interactive Online Conference on Tunnel Renovation

The conference Beyond a Tunnel Vision on November 27th 2020 has become a truly European collaboration: instead of meeting each other in The Netherlands, attendees can meet online through sessions that are broadcasted live from at least five different countries. Participation in the online conference is free of charge.

Tunnels play a vital role in infrastructure. Many of them are aging and in need of major renovations. Because of the volume and urgency of the tasks, the challenge needs to be addressed at an international scale. The European infrastructure associations CEDR and EUTF have teamed up with the COB (The Netherlands), ie-net (Belgium), VIA (Norway) and the Rijkswaterstaat (The Netherlands) to explore setting up an European tunnel programme for joined fundamental and practical research. The conference Beyond a Tunnel Vision is an important stepping stone.

At the conference, you will be updated on the initiatives and actions towards a network of experts and tunnels. Among the contributors are Jürg Röthlisberger (chairman of CEDR), Stefan Maurhofer (president EUTF) and Jan Slager (manager renovation programme Rijkswaterstaat). For in-depth knowledge and discussions you can join the parallel sessions. Experts from all over Europe will present best practices, lessons learned and scientific studies to inspire the participants and invite them to share their own views and experiences.

Programme

Beyond a Tunnel Vision is aimed at sharing real life problems and learning from practical solutions for asset owners. At the moment, the speakers who have applied are being reviewed by the programme committee. At the conference you can participate in sessions about topics such as structural health, risk management, virtualisation, simulation, sustainability, testing and verification, tunnel safety, life cycle management, cyber security and predictive maintenance. Amongst the speakers are asset owners, industry and knowledge partners. Most sessions will be co-productions, for example client/contractor, asset owner/knowledge institute, contractor/sub-contractors, et cetera. The programme committee aims at a good balance between structural, installation, automation, innovative and holistic approaches.

Online Conference

To join the conference you only need a steady internet connection and a web browser. The plenary and parallel sessions will be easily accessible through one single online portal. This allows you to participate in more sessions since you can switch whenever you like. In the portal you will also find a list of attendees so you can make valuable connections. More interesting business opportunities and inspiration can be found in the sponsor section, where organisations showcase their products and services. Some sponsors will also host exclusive digital expert sessions; these are only available by invitation.
