Project Section Including Two Tunnels

The Munich–Innsbruck railway line is the most important connection from southern Germany to Tyrol/Austria and serves as a feeder to the Brenner Pass.

In 2012, the ministries of transport of Austria and Germany concluded an intergovernmental agreement on the coordinated planning for the expansion of the cross-border rail connection in order to expand the northern access route from Munich via Rosenheim to the German-Austrian border and on to Innsbruck in line with demand.

The approximately 25 km long planning section between Innleiten and Kirnstein, part of the Brenner northern rail access, is located east of Rosenheim. The planning includes the two tunnels Ringelfeld and Steinkirchen with the technical tunnel equipment, the planning of the rail and road sections for the above-ground alignment as well as the structural engineering section with the object and structural design for the new construction of overpasses, troughs, noise protection walls and supporting structures. The Steinkirchen tunnel is planned with a length of 13 km. At present, no longer tunnel exists in Germany.
