Gubrist Tunnel, Third Bore

The 3.3 km long Gubrist Tunnel is part of Zurich’s North Bypass between the communities of Weiningen and Regensdorf. The road tunnel began operating in 1985 and possesses two separate directional tubes each with two lanes. The tubes are connected with one another by means of 12 cross-passages set 300 m apart. On account of the significant increase in traffic on the North Bypass, it was decided to construct a third bore for the Gubris Tunnel. The scheme commissioned by the Swiss Roads Office (FEDRO/ASTRA) started with the ground-breaking ceremony on November 21, 2017.
