Noise Protection in Rail Traffic

Captioned “Goodbye Rail Bonus – Which Effects does it exert on Noise Precaution”?, Dr.-Ing. Friedrich Krüger, STUVA,  is to chair a seminar on “Noise Prevention in Rail Traffic”. The seminar is scheduled to take place on October 25 and 26, 2016, in Ostfildern-Nellingen; it is being organized by the Esslingen Technical Academy.

Railways as an essential element of the transport infrastructure represent a must for tackling high traffic volumes particularly in built-up areas. Urban transit systems can only be effective and attractive providing they run on rails, which are kept free of impediments imposed by other forms of transport and which are not located too far away from residential quarters and places of work. In order to protect the population, measures devised to reduce air-borne emissions caused by rail traffic are needed to an ever growing extent. Low noise emissions contribute to the creation of new rail routes and thus to the reduction of the environmental impact.

Investigating and solving Noise Problems

The seminar deals with the total complex of the creation, distribution and reduction of air-borne noise caused by rail traffic as well as with measuring and evaluation. Concrete possibilities for investigating and solving noise issues on the rail transportation sector are provided. An important aspect is the presentation of a new traffic noise prevention guideline from 2014 and its possible implications for planning new routes. Those taking part in the seminar include members of public transportation companies, the DB AG, authorities, consultants, research institutes, companies and legal offices.
