Swiss Tunnel Congress 2018: June 13–15 in Lucerne

The 17th edition of the Swiss Tunnel Congress (STC) will be held from 13 to 15 June at the Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre. The STC 2018 will take place with its tried and tested format again this year, with the Colloquium, Congress, exhibition, evening events and excursions. The STC is an important platform for clients, designers, engineers, suppliers, service providers, contractors and the industry to learn first-hand of new developments in selected tunnel projects both domestically and abroad.

The title of this year’s Swiss Tunnel Colloquium on June, 13, is “Waterproofing and Drainage in Underground Construction”. Amongst other topics, there will be a look back at experiences with waterproofing systems in the Zurich SBB cross-city link project. Drainage through the exploratory tunnel will be examined through the example of the Brenner Base Tunnel project, which is currently under way. This year, the Colloquium was organised in collaborate with the STS young members (STSym), with the aim of ensuring some of the speakers are under 35 years old.

On June, 14, a balanced blend of Swiss and selected international tunnelling projects, mostly involving Swiss expertise, is sure to make for a fascinating exchange of technical experiences. This year the Congress’ focus is on projects still under construction. One can therefore be looking forward to hearing about the latest developments in the Eppenberg, Bözberg, Albula II and Champel Tunnels and the Belchen Renovation Tunnel. The design of the projects “Gotthard Road Tunnel, second bore”, “Lötschberg Base Tunnel expansion” and “RBS Berne railway station expansion” is of major interest to the Swiss underground construction industry. European projects of the century such as the Brenner Base Tunnel, the Euralpin Lyon Turin Tunnel and Grand Paris are additional highlights of the Congress. With contributions on the Doha Metro and Rome Metro Line C, the audience will furthermore hear about two projects posing very specific technical challenges.

The Director of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), Jürg Röthlisberger, will give the introductory presentation, “Tunnel vision: are we building too many?”.

Online registrations for the Congress are accepted until April, 20, 2018:
