The Klaus chain of tunnels: Klaus Tunnel Breakthrough in March
With the exception of the Klaus chain of tunnels and the Gleinalm Tunnel, Austria‘s Pyhrn Autobahn A9 toward the Slovakian border is fully completed. Work on the Klaus tunnels, specifically on the second bores of the Spering and Falkenstein tunnels, has been ongoing since the end of 2014, and started on the Klaus and Traunfried tunnels in May 2015. The most recent breakthrough in this series of tunnels took place on 3 March in the Klaus Tunnel; the new bore is to open to traffic as early as 2017, following civil-engineering finishing work and electrical fitting-out.
