75th Geomechanics Colloquium and Austrian Tunnel Day 2026 in Salzburg
From 8 to 9 October, the 75th Geomechanics Colloquium of the Austrian Society for Geomechanics (ÖGG) will take place at the “Salzburg Congress” conference centre. This year’s colloquium is dedicated to Prof. Gerhard Seeber (1925–2025), who has shaped generations of engineers in the field of power station construction. On Friday 7 October, the 15th Austrian Tunnel Day will also be held at the Salzburg Congress Centre.
Austrian Tunnel Day
The Tunnel Day is organised by the Austrian National Committee of the ITA as part of the Geomechanics Colloquium. During the Tunnel Day, state-of-the-art Austrian and international engineering concepts for design and construction will be presented. The aim is to showcase the latest innovative developments in design, construction and operation. The key topics of the 15th Austrian Tunnel Day are:

Registration for the Tunnel Day is possible only in conjunction with participation in the Geomechanics Colloquium.

Geomechanics Colloquium
The 75th Geomechanics Colloquium will take place over two days, accompanied by a comprehensive technical exhibition, and will cover the following key topics:
Monitoring during construction and operation
Infrastructure: Operation, maintenance, renewal
Sustainability in geotechnical engineering
Brenner Base Tunnel: Experience to date
On the evening of 8 October, as part of the supporting programme, the ÖGG is organising a chamber concert in the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace, followed by a conference dinner at the Salzburg Congress. Both events are included in the conference registration fees.
Field Trips
Following the two-day colloquium at the Salzburg Congress, the ÖGG is offering two field trips, which can be booked separately when registering to attend.
The first field trip begins on Friday, 9 October, after the end of the lecture programme, and takes participants to the Ebensee pumped-storage power station. On Saturday morning, 10 October, field trip number two will lead to the Brenner Base Tunnel. The programme includes a visit to the “Tunnelwelten” information centre and a tour of various sections of the tunnel system. Participation in the field trips is subject to a fee and can be booked individually in the online registration process.
