Implenia To Build District Heating Tunnel Under the Elbe

In December 2021, Implenia was awarded a contract by project owner Wärme Hamburg to build a tunnel under the River Elbe for Hamburg’s new district heating network. The project is worth around E72 million euros, and Implenia is responsible for the detailed design and basic construction of the tunnel and the district heating pipe, as well as for planning and installing the required operating technology.

Brenner Base Tunnel: Tender Launched for Pfons–Brenner Construction Lot

The Brenner Base Tunnel BBT SE has invited tenders for the Pfons–Brenner construction lot (H53) with an estimated contract value of 855 million euros (net) throughout Europe. The contract will be awarded according to the best bidder principle. In addition to the price, qualitative criteria will also be taken into account in the evaluation. The deadline for bids is 16 May 2022, 12 noon.

Organisation of Large Underground Construction Projects in Germany and Switzerland – A Comparative Analysis

In Germany and Switzerland, the realisation of large-scale projects is always the subject of controversial discussions. The media often give the impression that there is a lot wrong in Germany and that everything is fine in Switzerland. It is therefore investigated whether such an assessment for large underground construction projects is justified according to scientific criteria. For this purpose, a measurement system was developed to evaluate the success of large underground construction projects based on seven success criteria. This system was applied to 70 large underground construction projects in Germany and Switzerland. In addition to a quantitative comparison of the two countries, this article highlights differences with regard to the individual success criteria. The results show that large underground construction projects in Switzerland are not conclusively more successful than in Germany. However, the decisive factor for the respective project success is the quality of cooperation among the project participants.

With well over 1000 registered participants, numerous exhibitors and hundreds of trade visitors, the STUVA Conference 2021 at Messe Karlsruhe did not set a new attendance record, but in view of the pandemic situation the number of participants was simply overwhelming. A total of 2900 industry professionals attended the conference.
