2nd Munich S-Bahn Main Line: Construction Progress on the West Tunnel and at the Central Station
The work of the joint venture ARGE Tunnel Hauptbahnhof (ATH) is progressing. The launch shaft for the tunnel boring machines in front of Donnersberg Bridge was completed in summer 2024, work on the RS 3 rescue shaft is in full swing and level E-4 at the main station is being excavated since October 2024. Following the introduction of the 2nd S-Bahn main line in tunnel 2/2023 and the ATH consortium in tunnel 5/2023, this article provides an up-to-date overview of the progress of the work in the west and at the central station.
In April 2024, tunnel construction for the 2nd S-Bahn main line began with a symbolic start at the up to 34 m deep RS3 rescue shaft in Munich‘s Arnulfpark. ARGE ATH made the following progress in the various construction phases.
