Second Bore of the Roppener Tunnel operational

A second bore was produced for the 5.1 km long, single-tube Roppener Tunnel near Imst for the motorway in the Tyrolean Upper Inn Valley. It was created largely by mining means (drill+blast with full excavation) together with 23 cross-passages. It was opened on September 23rd, 2009. Subse-quently the original bore has to be redeveloped and adjusted to the latest safety requirements. The completely redeveloped tunnel is scheduled to be opened in April 2011, when one-way traffic will flow through the 2-lane tunnel tubes.
