Axis Deviationswhen producing Diaphragm Walls

This report deals with the production accuracies of diaphragm wall lamellae. For this purpose, the production accuracy regarding the axis deviations of the lamellae was investigated at various construction sites. The axis deviation is defined here as the displacement between the top and bottom points orthogonally to the direction of the lamella. After evaluating different series of measurements the normal distribution in accordance with Gauß was established as the suitable mathematical method for describing the frequency distribution. Under similar general conditions the determined parameters can provide the possibility for working out the anticipated axis deviations prior to executing a construction scheme.

1 Introduction

Diaphragm walls are numbered among the most sophisticated geotechnical structures in specialized foundation engineering. Apart from their basic function as a foundation, diaphragm walls also offer diverse opportunities for being used for special purposes. Thus in mechanized tunnelling for example, diaphragm walls are used for producing watertight starting and target shafts as well as stations and emergency exits. Sealing blocks for accesses and exits for tunnel boring machines are also being produced to an increasing extent by the diaphragm wall construction method.
