Special measures are required in order to provide passengers with the greatest possible protection should fire occur in an underground facility. In close collaboration Cologne Transport (Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe AG/KVB), and the Research Association for Tunnels and Transportation Facilities mbH (STUVAtec) have developed a feasible application of modern fire protection for the North-South Urban Light Railway in Cologne.
